THE AWARD: The Department of Biology and School of Education at the University of Missouri-St. Louis are accepting applications for the Granger Science Teacher Development Award. The purpose of the award is to encourage students who have expressly set science education as a career goal. The $1,000 cash award is intended to convey the reality of science teaching as a worthwhile endeavor. Use of the award money is at the discretion of the winner.

ELIGIBILITY: All high school seniors planning to attend the University of Missouri-St. Louis as a science teaching major are eligible for the award. All high school seniors interested in science teaching regardless of college matriculation are eligible for the award plaque and recognition.

JUDGING: Applicants for the award will be judged according to their expressed interest in a teaching career in science; participation in past teaching activities; academic achievement, particularly in science courses; interest in science as demonstrated by participation in science clubs and science research competitions; and evidence of overall contributions to school and community.

A committee of science and education professors will use the above criteria presented in the application forms and letters of recommendation to evaluate the applicants. Finalists will be screened further by personal interviews.
