Certificate Programs

Graduate Certificate in Biotechnology

The Graduate Certificate in Biotechnology is offered for students with a Bachelor's degree who wish to obtain advanced training in those fields of biology that pertain to biotechnology without necessarily earning a Master's degree, or in addition to an M. S. or Ph.D. degree. Training is provided in biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, cell biology, developmental biology, and molecular evolution.

Students who wish to participate in graduate certificate programs must be enrolled in the graduate program at the University of Missouri-St. Louis as either degree or non-degree students, and must complete a separate application to the certificate program. Admission requirements are the same as those for the Master's degree program in Biology.

Additional information on the Biotechnology page can be found here.

Graduate Certificate in Tropical Biology and Conservation

This certificate program is offered to students who wish to obtain a recognized credential for future career opportunities in the management and conservation of tropical ecosystems or in areas of public policy related to tropical conservation. The certificate may be taken in conjunction with M. S. or Ph.D. programs in the Department of Biology, and is also supported by the International Center for Tropical Ecology. Requirements are 18 credit hours of core courses and electives, of which at least 12 credits must be taken at the 400 level. Core courses are Public Policy of Conservation and Sustainable Development (Biology 445), Internship in Conservation Biology (Biology 447) and one of either Theory and Application of Conservation Biology (Biology 446) or Advanced Tropical Ecology and Conservation (Biology 487). Electives may be chosen from a variety of graduate lecture and field courses in Biology and must include 3 to 7 credit hours selected from a list of courses in the departments of Chemistry, Economics, History, Political Science, and Sociology.
