Syn: Pherosphaera Hooker, non Archer. Allied to Microcachrys and Dacrydium (2). Two species.

Description

"Evergreen, moisture-loving shrubs... Branches short and stiff or long and slender. Leaves scale-like, spirally arranged, often in 4 or 5 rows, dense and overlapping. Male and female strobili erect, egg-shaped or sub-globose, [2-3 mm] long, composed of 10 - 15 stamens. Cones about [2.5 mm] long, made up of about 4 - 8 thin scales, thickened at the base, blunt-pointed at the apex. Ovuliferous scale none. Seeds several in each cone, each seed at the base of a glume-like scale equalling or slightly exceeding the length of the seed. Individual seeds light brown or greyish, about the size of a clover seed" (2).

Range

Australia: New South Wales and Tasmania (1). "Found at alpine elevations usually on the margins of lakes, streams, and waterfalls, where they are rare" (2).
