 C-Fern Sport Report

Hermaphroditic and male C-Fern gametophytes
slow-mo sperm (slo1)

Mutant: slow-mo sperm; gene symbol, slo1

Like wild type, slo1 sperm are released from the antheridium in thin-walled vesicles and then, shortly after release, break free and swim away. However, most slo1 sperm swim very slowly and can be easily observed, even under high (greater than 50X) magnification. A few moderately fast swimming types allow for self-fertilization of slo1 gametophytes. EMS-generated.
