Faculty Positions

As the first two of several faculty additions designed to build on existing strengths, the Department of Biology at Washington University now seeks colleagues working in the areas of Plant Science and Evolution of Development. Candidates should have significant research accomplishments and a commitment to excellence in both undergraduate and graduate teaching. Although we anticipate filling these positions at the assistant professor level, we would be pleased to consider distinguished senior applicants.

Plant Science. Candidates are sought who pursue innovative molecular and cellular approaches to the study of any area of plant biology using plant or model microbial systems. Participation in interdisciplinary research within the University, as well as with the newly established Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in St. Louis, will be encouraged.

Evolution of Development. Candiates are sought who will be able to establish a vigorous program of research, and provide leadership in research training, at the interface between evolutionary and developmental biology. Those studying evolution of development in any taxa will be carefully considered, but candidates with expertise in vertebrate biology will be viewed with particular interest.

Review of applications will begin December 14, 1998. Letters of application should be accompanied by a CV, brief statements of research and teaching interests, reprints of three papers, and the names of three persons who have been asked to send letters of recommendation to:
