The MADS-box Gene Home Page

Served from the "cradle of the MADS-box" (see Schwarz-Sommer et al., 1990)

Welcome to the MADS-box gene homepage, which has been established at the Max-Planck-Institute for breeding research in Cologne, Germany, by Günter Theissen, Jan T. Kim, and Kai-Uwe Winter. Here we want to provide the scientific community with data about one of the arguably most fascinating gene families, that may be paralleled in its importance for eukaryotic development and evolution only by the homeobox genes. This site will constantly be subject to frequent updates. In particular, we try to keep the set of MADS box sequences in the list, the alignment and the trees sections as complete as possible.

This site has been set up only recently. Thus, if you have suggestions for improvements or additions, please contact the us (email: theissen@mpiz-koeln.mpg.de; kim@mpiz-koeln.mpg.de; winter@mpiz-koeln.mpg.de).
