Species of The Genus Aeonium Display Different CAM Behaviours

The shown values have been obtained under laboratory conditions. CAM plants are characterized by a steep maximum of photosynthesis at daybreak (R. LÖSCH, 1985).

A. Aeonium haworthii: a strong CAM plant. The influence of the temperature on the nightly accumulation of CO2 is small.

B.Aeonium tabulaeforme: displays only little CAM behaviour. The nightly accumulation of CO2 is dependent on the temperature.

C. Aeonium goochiae: a nearly typical C3 plant. Only around 30 °C can a weak CAM behaviour be detected (negative CO2 balance).
