Freeze-etched thylacoid membrane of a spinach chloroplast. The flat membranes, part of them round in outline, of two grana stacks (to the left and to the right) seem to be connected by tubular shaped membranes of the stroma part.
In ES zones can areas with chance distributed 160 particles and such where they are arranged in a regular pattern of two-dimensional crystals be found. The particles are tetramers (L. STAEHELIN, Boulder, Colorado, 1976).
