Synthesis of a polynucleotide strand along a template (the complementary strand). Nucleoside triphosphates, DNA polymerase and a primer that becomes gradually elongated by polymerization are necessary. The direction of growth is always 5' > 3'. The polarity of the template strand is just the opposite.
