Leaf Arrangement: Opposite

Two Leaves Spring from Every Node


Laminum album (White Dead Nettle, Lamiaceae): The leaves have leaf stalks, the blade of the leaf is lanceolate and has a serrate margin.



Vincetoxicum officinale (= Cynanchum vincetoxicum, Asclepiadaceae): The leaves are of a broad and lanceolate shape with the broadest site near the base of the leaf. The base is rounded or cordate and has a short leaf stalk.



To the left: Lonicera imlexa (Honeysuckle, Caprifoliaceae): Each pair of opposite leaves is arranged at an angle of 90 degrees to the preceding one. This is also called a decussate arrangement. The leaves are sessile, the leaf blades are broad and oval with pointed apexes.
To the right: Prunella grandiflora (Self-Heal; Lamiaceae). The leaves are opposite, with leaf stalks and stipules at the leaf axil; smooth margins or slightly serrate.
