Winged Stem

Fabaceae: Chamaespartium sagittata

The stem is broadly winged, has no thorns and a usually upright, sometimes climbing growth. It is organized into 3 - 6 segments that are easily discerned by the notches at the wings. Hardly any leaves spring directly from the stem. The leaves are obovate, often with a pointed apex. The 3 - 15 flowers are arranged in short and dense terminal racemes.
