Anton de Bary (1831-1888)

Dr.med.; outstanding plant anatomist of the 19th century's second half. He developed methods for the isolation and cultivation of fungi and algae and thus generated the preconditions for the study of the interactions between fungi and hosts. This allowed the understanding of the whole life cycle of fungi. [Ber. Deutsch. Bot. Ges. 6,1 (1888)]
