Adult in habitat
Parajubaea cocoides comes from South America, where it grows in the mountains of
Ecuador and Colombia. It seems to be doing well in temperate California. As close as we are likely to get to a
cold-hardy coconut palm, this elegant glossy-leaved beauty comes from Ecuador and is quite common in the capital city, Quito, though it is not known in the
wild. Needs protection while young, but when mature should tolerate several degrees of frost.
