You know you may be dealing with poached cycads when...
by Tom Bihr

  1. Someone has many plants for sale and they can't tell you what species they have because- "they have not leafed-out yet".

  2. The plants are not fully rooted.

  3. The plant is something not ordinarily found in cultivation.

  4. The trunk caudex is over 5" and it is not a seedling.

  5. Plants are obscured and hidden from normal nursery stock.

  6. The supplier can't tell you anything about their origin.

  7. The price is so cheap!... and the seller will give you a volume discount!

  8. The seller is selling out of a broken down pick-up or van and there's a faint odor of cannabis and budweiser.

  9. You're buying at a swap-meet or garage sale.

  10. The seller has everything under the sun but then shows you some stuff that is hidden from view at "another yard".

  11. Plants are stacked like logs and you can "pick-out what you want"- cash only no receipt.

  12. Another shipment is expected- and the seller has no idea when it might arrive- never knows what they'll get...(wait a minute this sounds like a legitimate purchase)
