Different column structure and ways of its separation in the close species show that Umbelliferae column appeared during the evolution independently and repeatedly in several subfamilies, tribes, subtribes. Representing Hydrocotyloideae as the most archaic, ancestral group seems to be obsolete. But similarity of hystological pericarp structure in different Umbelliferae shows the phylogenetical unity of this group. Excluding separate Hydrocotylaceae family close to Umbelliferae s. str. and Araliaceae seems possible.
