A flosristic study of the Poaceae of the Brazilian Cerrado region is presented. Ten subfamilies, 115 genera and 520 spp. are described and most of them illustrated. The spp. described grow in all the different phytophysiognomies found in the region, i.e. gallery forest, mesophytic forest, cerradao, cerrado s.s., campo sujo de cerrado, campo limpo, campo rupestre, vereda, wet campo, campo demurundum and anthropic areas. The ten genera with the highest number of spp. were Paspalum (115 spp.), Panicum (63 spp.), Axonopus (28 spp.), Mesosetum (18 spp.), Aristida (17 spp.),Andropogon (17 spp.) Eragrostis (13 spp.), Ichnanthus (13 spp.), Digitaria (10 spp.) and Sporobolus (10 spp.). These 10 genera comprise 58% of all the species described. For each accepted species name the folowing information is given: description, synonymy, specimens examined, distribution, uses, affinities and conservation status.
