VARIATION OF THE PLANT DIVERSITY IN A SUCCESSIONAL MOSAIC IN THE ANDEANREGION (ANTIOQUIA, COLOMBIA).

D. Giraldo-Canas (Instituto de Botánica Darwinion, c.c. 22, San Isidro 1642, Buenos Aires, Argentina).

Variation of the diversity of 5 remnants was studied at different successional stages in a montane wet forest. About 74% of the species were represented by less than 3 individuals, showing a very homogenous distribution. Linear regression analysis showed that there were not relationships between age of the remnants and the diversity, species number, evenness, and the dominance of the species. This suggests that in the studied forest the most advanced successional stages are not necessarily more diverse than younger ones. The balance, as for the number of species is referred, is reached too early in the successional process in the investigated area. However, the remnants are fine in taxonomic unbalanced condition, as was demonstrated by a strong variation in the floristic composition of each remnant. According to this study, it would be concluded that there exists a balance among local inmigration and extinction.
