The taxa identification was based on morphological characters and characters identified by the Optical Microscopy of pollen grains and Scanning Electronic Microscopy of seeds ornamentation. Were identified ten taxa: Staelia aurea K. Schum., S. galioides DC., S. vestita K. Schum., S. virgata (Roem. & Schult.) K. Schum., Mitracarpus frigidus (Roem. & Schult.) K. Schum. var. frigidus, Mitracarpus discolor (Miq.) K. Schum., M. parvulus K. Schum., M. scabrellus Benth., M. villosus (Sw.) & Schltdl. Cham. and Mitracarpus sp. In Staelia the species were identified by the lacinia sheath number, in the relative position of the bract and in the sepals size. The pollen grains are (7)-9-colporated and the exotesta of the seed show foveolo-papilated cells. In the Mitracarpus species it was based on habit, braquiblast presence or not and the dorsals and ventrals depressions of the seeds. The pollen grains are (4)-7-(8)-colpated or colporated and the exotesta of the seeds show plain or foveolated cells. In the Mitracarpus species it was based on habit, braquiblast presence or not and the dorsals and ventrals depressions of the seeds. The pollen grains are (4)-7-(8)-colpated or colporated and the exotesta of the seeds show plain or foveolated cells.
