PLANT ENDEMISM IN ARGENTINA

Fernando O. Zuloaga, Instituto de Botánica Darwinion, Casilla de Correo 22, 1642 San Isidro, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

During this symposium, the distribution of vascular plants in Argentina will be studied, in particular, the level of endemism will be correlated, at the generic and specific level, with the biogeography of the country. Within this context, several families, such as Asteraceae, Cactaceae, Solanaceae, Verbenaceae, and others, will be analyzed and related with the major biomas present in Argentina, such as grasslands, Andean regions, subtropical forests, etc. Finally, the percentage of endemisms in these different biogeographical formations will be given, relating it with the presence of similar biomas in neighboring countries.
