A. A. Zakaryan and L. L. Osipyan, Yerevan State University, Yerevan, 375049, Republic of Armenia

Evaluation of eight media for their use determination of the number of micromycetes-contaminants in microbiological practice has been done. The media evaluated were as follows: Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (CDA), Czapek-Yeast Agar (CYA), Yeast-Malt Agar (YMA) ,Malt extract Agar (MA), Potato Glucose Agar (PGA),Thioglicol Agar (TC) and Soyae-Cozein Agar (SC).Forty five strains of 15 species of moulds most frequently occurring in herbal medicines, were taken into consideration. It was shown that the medium MA, PDA, SC inhibits the growth of many species of micromycetes. Quantitative investigations indicate the medium YMA as the best one for the growth of fungi. The number of colonies of micromycetes appeared in this medium was greater than in the case of other media applied.
