A comparison of contemporary of the specific composition of the vegetation with the passport system date of 1946 has shown alterations taking place in the edificators of the natural vegetation during the past period. Our investigations revealed that the species represented in 1946 in only splintery specimens have become at present predominant, while those species which are valuable both as fodder plants and as soilprotectors have disappeared from the phytocenoses. This brings about a disturbance in the turf topsoil and a removal of the fertile layer of the soil. The conducted investigations enable us to map out measures of improvement, which will provide the possibility not only to preserve, but also to restore the pastures practically to their initial state.
