BAMBOO AND GARDEN IN CHINA

Bamboos have been widely cultivated in gardens. There is idiom in China: Every garden has bamboos and Every bamboo can be cultivated in gardens. China is a major bamboo-producing country (37 genera, 500 species), about half species of the world. In garden, the different bamboo has been cultivated in different position for its beautiful landscape which may be showing as follows: 1. In Front of Garden Gate: Bambosa multiplex var. multiplex, Pseudosasa japonica (Sieb.& Zucc.) Makino etc., 2. In Open Place: Phyllostachys sulphurea cv. Sulphurea, Ph. heterocycla cv. Pubescens etc., 3. Hedge Bamboos: Bambusa multiplex cv. Alphonse-karr, Indocalancus latifolius (Keng) McClure etc., 4. Along Pond or Stream: Phyllostachys huteroclada Oliver, P. nidularia Muuro etc., 5. With other Plants Together: Phyllostachys nigra (Lodd. ex Lindl.) Muuro, Pleioblastus simomi (carr.) Nakai etc., 6. Beside Buildings: Dendrocalamus giganteus Muuro, Pseudosasa amabilis (McClure) Keng f., 7. Ground Covers: Sasa auricoma E.G. Camus, Pleioblactus fortunei (Van Houtle) Nakai etc., 8. Potted Bamboos: Bambusa ventricosa McClure, B. multiplex cv. Fernleaf etc.
