THE HAIR AND INDUMENTUM TYPES IN CENTRAL AFRICAN SPECIES OF THE GENUS HYPOXIS L. (HYPOXIDACEAE)

Justyna Wiland-Szymanska, Dept. of Geobotany, A. Mickiewicz University, Poznan, Poland

Morphological studies on Hypoxis in DR of Congo, Rwanda and Burundi showed that indumentum is a useful feature for the taxonomy of 20 species occuring there. Hairs were considered by Nel (1914), Heideman (1983) and Nordal (1985), but no research referred to the Central African species. The distribution of three types of trichomes building seven types of indumentum, is various for different taxa, but within taxa they are identical or almost so. Anatomy of trichomes is presented, which posses multicellular and not single cellular branches, as it was reported earlier by Hummel and Staesche (1962). Heideman E., 1983, Bothalia 14(3-4): 889-893.
