THE MOSS FLORA OF ANHUI PROVINCE

Wang Qing, Institute of Botany, Jiangsu Province & Academia Sinica, Nanjing 210014, P. R. China

Anhui Province is situated in the eastern part of China with an area of 130,000 km2, it is a mountainous province and most of the mountains over 1,000 m above sea level occur in the northwestern and the southern part of this province. The highest peak, Huangshan, reaches 1841m above sea level. On the basis of our recent collection (saved in NAS) and previous collection (PE), an annotated checklist of moss in this province is provided, 408 species belong to 171 genera and 43 families have been reported in it. The mossflora of Anhui Province is a part of the mossflora of East China, which is one of the most diversified and the evolution center of Chinese Bryoflora as pointed out by Wu Pengcheng (1993). It seems that the mossflora of this province is the transitional ones between Japan and the Central China.
