Renqing Wang, Zhiguo Zhang and Shuping Zhang, Department of Biology, Shandong University, Jinan, Shandong 250100, P.R.China

Fragmentation habitats, which were caused by human activities, were often referred to habitat islands because of their similarity to oceanic islands in many features. The plant species diversities of seventeen habitat islands selected from Shandong province of China were studied. It made known that (1) the relationship between the species number and areas of habitat islands conform to MacArthur-Wilson's species-area equation, (2) Habitat islands have richer plant species diversities than surroundings, and each habitat island likes a small protected area and served as species pool, (3) Island equilibrium theory can be used to natural reserve design combining with other theories.
