IN VITRO SYNTHESIS OF SECONDARY METABOLITES IN DIFFERENT CELL SYSTEMS

Hrachik Vardapetyan, Yerevan State University, Faculty of Biology, 375049 Yerevan, Armenia

The study of secondary metabolism in cell cultures can help to find some rules about biosynthesis and accumulation as well the interrelation between morphogenesis and secondary metabolites production. The rules of in vitro synthesis of secondary constituents may be different from those in differentiated plants. The ability of secondary metabolites biosynthesis is connected with a certain degree of cell differentiation. Therefor, different cell lines were obtained differing in aggregate size and uniformity of cell tipe. The cultures with globular structures and shoots are a very good system both for secondary metabolite synthesis and for study of natural products formation. The globular structures can be used for biotransformation, an excellent source for enzimes, to search for new compounds, as well for the studies on the regulation of secondary metabolites biosynthesis.
