XVI International Botanical Congess
One disjunction in Papaveroideae was realized by Romneya living in California and Cathcartia of Sichuan-Hubei (Central China). Both genera had watery latex in the contrary to all other Papavereae taxa with milky sap. Cathcartia was placed among yellow flowered, polycarpic taxa of Meconopsis ser. Simplicifolia as well as of M.cambrica and of Papaver sect. Meconella in the dahlgrenogram. Monocarpic M. subsect. Polychaetia (yellow) and M.ser.Aculeata (blue) were farther from the taxa mentioned before. M.cambrica was nearer to the P.sect. Pilosa chemically (aporphines, morphinanes, meconic acid, lack of isopavines). The phtalideisoquinoline and meconic acid content of Stylomecon proved that it was near to evoluted P.taxa Roemeria refracta (isopavines, morphinanes) was nearer to the genus Papaver than R. hybrida was (lack of these alkaloids).
