The structure of bulbs in some species of Gen. Lycoris (L. radiata, L. aurea, L. chinensis, L. longituba and L. sprengeri) from China shows following characters: 1). the first leaf of the main innovation bud after flowering isn't a foliage leaf, usually reduced to a adaxial scale (rarely to two scales), the second one is often a wholly sheathing foliage leaf (rarely with free margins at the base), the following ones except the last one are sheathing foliage leaves, without free margins at the base, the uppermost leaf is a half embracing scale, 2). the second uppermost leaf of a flowering shoot generation doesn't develop until the next vegetational period begins, 3). the flowering scape precedes the last foliage leaf of its own period. These indicate some differences between Gen. Lycoris and Ungernia, but also great similarities between them in comparison with other genera in Amaryllidaceae (cf. Mueller-Doblies 1978). This supports that there are only Gen. Lycoris and Ungernia in the Trib. Lycorideae Traub.
