An anatomical investigation of mature flower buds of Forsteronia velloziana and Prestonia coalita was conducted to survey the types of secretory structures present. Three types were observed: 1. papillose epidermis on the basal and median region of the style-head. This is covered by a mucilage secretion, which was also detected inside epidermal cells and between the style-head and anthers, 2. Calycine colleters-a single emergence occurs opposite each sepal-bearing a palisade-like epidermis that produced mucilage, 3. Nectary-an annular continuous disc surrounding the base of the ovary and partitioned into five lobes in the mid and upper portions of the ovary. The nectar is produced by nectariferous parenchyma cells and released by modified stomata. The fusion of the style-head with the filaments (retinacle) were registered.
