EFFECT OF SALINITY ON PHOTOSYNTHETIC ENZYMES AND PRODUCTIVITY IN SAFFLOWERCv. BHIMA

M. G. Shitole and N. M. Patil, Department of Botany, University of Pune, Pune 411007, India.

Effect of increasing levels of NaCl and Na2SO4 on photosynthetic enzymes and productivity in safflower Cv. Bhima was investigated. RuBP carboxylase (RuBP-C) to PEP carboxylase (PEP-C) ratio was like that of C3 plants. Activity of RuBP-C decreased at all levels of NaCl while it was more than the control at low levels and was inhibited at all higher levels of Na2SO4. Activity of PEP-C was more than the control at all levels of both salts. Activities of phosphoglycolate phosphatase, glycolate oxidase and pe.
