The increasing consumption of medical plants led to the studies of the standardisation of raw drugs that are derived from them, starting point of herbal medicines trading. The banana tree is a herbaceous monocotyledonous plant very appreciated because of its fruits, but after harvesting, the rest of the plant is scrapped. At present in Pharmaceutical Biological Laboratories (LABIOFAM) the pseudstems are recovered and processed to obtain the BSP. The presence of organic compounds in BSP such as tannins, a wide range of oligoelements as Fe, Ca, Mg, Zn and Se, and total and insoluble dietary fibres, compose the nutritional base of a new wide ranging dietary supplement registered under mark ACITAN. The report's principal objective is the micromorphological research of the dry powdered drug, its granulometric studies and the chemical analysis to standardised that natural raw material in the ACITAN elaboration as moisture, total and acid insoluble ashes, oligoelements, total and insoluble fibres and tannins.
