ACTIVE PRINCIPAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION OF PLANT SPECIES USED IN THE DISTRICT OF LA ESPERANZA, TRUJILLO, PERU

This research was performed in La Esperanza - Trujillo, 1996-1997, a survey to 340 housekeepers was applied: alternative use of both traditional and scientific medicines were used by 56.19% while sporadic use of traditional medicine was used by 36.47% and scientific medicine was used exclusively by 7.34%. About 150 different plant species were used a traditional source of traditional medicine. Common and scientific name, used parts type and pharmacological effect of active principle of them were compiled. Systematic grouping of those plants was performed regarding frequency of use: highly used, regularly used and rarely used.
