The medicinal preparations of plant origin play one of the key roles in the modern pharmaceutical industry. But mass and often uncontrollable collection of medicinal plants may lead to the reduction of their populations number. Development of the biotechnological methods gives an opportunity of receiving medicinal preparations from the in vitro cultivated plant tissues and cells. Just for this purpose the researches of the Institute of Botany of NAS of Armenia in collaboration with the staff of Department of Plant Physiology and Microbiology of YSU introduce various medicinal plants especially endemic ones into isolated culture. About 30 species of plants of Armenian flora have already been introduced. Well-growing callus tissues are obtained and methods of in vitro clonal micropropagation are elaborated.
