SUMMING UP BIODIVERSITY DATA ON ASIAN UMBELLIFERAE

Michael G. Pimenov & Michael V. Leonov, Moscow State University, Moscow, Russia

Asia is the continent of greatest taxonomic diversity in the Umbelliferae. The taxomonic and chorological data on Asian species and genera have been critically summarized with the use of the specially constructed computer databases GNOM and ASIUM of the MSU Botanical Garden. The structure of ASIUM permits storage of the data of species protologues, synonymy, citations and distribution, as well as their manipulation to obtain some generalized characteristics. In total we have registered 2047 species and 278 genera. The maximum diversity on specific level is observed in China(683 sp.), Turkey (434), Iran (332), Russia (273), Kazakhstan (229), India (221) Uzbekistan (191), Kirghizia (185), Tadzhikistan (161), etc. The largest genera in Asia are Ferula (171 sp.), Bupleurum (153), Pimpinella (121), Heracleum (107), Seseli (97), Angelica (92), Prangos (43), Bunium (42) and Eryngium (34).
