The root morphology and leaf anatomy and basis features of water regimen were studies and compared in 66 plants (46 species) from alpine, subalpine and forest zones of the Zailiisky Alatau Range. The trends of plant adaptation to environment are defined. Four types of water regimen are distinguished in the plants examined: stable, moderately stable, moderately labile and labile. Adaptation strategy of water regimen of stable type plants is mostly directed to water conservation while the plants of labile type are characterized by water exchange intensification as an adaptation to water deficiency. An interrelationship between water regimen type, leaf anatomy and root morphology is established. Nesterova, Svetlana G.
