A comparison of early stages in the germination and growth of Xanthoria parietina (Teloschistaceae), Parmelia saxatilis (Parmeliaceae) and Physconia distorta and two species of Buellia (Physciaceae) has been performed in two different nutritive media: an inorganic medium and a 4% glucose LBM (Lilly-Barnett medium). Although several new techniques of isolation and culture of lichens have been reported in last few years, not sufficient data of ontogenetic variability of different species from different taxonomic circumscriptions are yet available. Different rates of spore efective germination and different times for the germination have been observed. Also various patterns in the ontogenetic development have been recognized.
