ETHNOBOTANY OF JINUO PEOPLE IN CHINA

The Jinuo live in the tropical mountains in southern Yunnan, Sw China, and practice shifting cultivation and gather wild plants as food, medicine, fiber and others. The Jinuo people (mostly women) collect and use 129 species of wild edible plants and about 210 species of medicinal plants. Round 30 wild plant species are used for cultural and religious purposes. There are plentiful indigenous knowledge on plant resource management and use in Jinuo community. Under the interrelation ship between plants and people, the Jinuo have protected many plants, especially trees.+
