ETHNOBOTANY OF YANACANCHA PEOPLE: USE OF WILD PLANTS FROM THE MONTANE FOREST AND RELATED AREAS

This study shows how the inhabitants of the village of Yanacancha in the District of Chumuch (Celendin-Cajamarca-Peru) and surroundings, wild vegetable resources, and their ethnoclasification. The study was developed throughout a Descriptive-Analitic Method, with two stays in the zone covering the dry and rainy season. A total of 150 species were collected with record of their uses . The 150 plants include 46 dicotyledons, 5 monocotyledons, 1 gymnosperms, 4 ferns and 1 lichen, in 51 families. Medicinal is the most common use category. Oher uses were timber, dyeing, edible, witchcraft, food and drinks. There is a high preference by the wild plants in the Jalca zone(3,500-4,000msnm.).The ethnoclasification below the species level is based in color, size, sensible appearance and sex for the majority of cases. In many cases, the names of the species and varieties are a description of their morphology and use.
