Our study shown that integrated biological and chemical approaches allow easy to identify the active entities among extracted compounds. We can generally assume from our studies that homologous regions in different toxins are functional reactive groups (FRG). Essential future of these toxins is that they have FRG either with an active hydrogen atom or unsaturated groups. The correlation between the chemical structure and the toxicity of substances having such FRG was found. Our approaches on the structure/activity relationship analysis can be used in at least three respects: (1) identification of potentially active peptides which have not been bioassayed, (2) preliminary evaluation of the toxicity of novel substances received from cyanobacteria, and (3) selection of compounds to test their as potential biologically active agents.
