XVI International Botanical Congess
Studies were carried out on nutritional requirements of lentinus subnudus Berk, a Nigerian edible mushroom. Fructose and peptone were the best utilizable carbon nitrogen sources, respectively, whereas arabinose and DL-phenylalanine were the poorest. Mycelial extension and density of L. subnudus thrived best on malt extract agar and potato dextrose rice straw agar. The agar media prepared from local maize and Sorghum at concentrations of 90 and 100 gL-1 supported equal mycelial growth as the imported malt extract agar. The implications of these findings is discussed in relation to the growth of lentinus subnudus mycelial.
