CARINIANA IANEIRENSIS (LECYTHIDACEAE) A NEW SPECIES FOR BOLIVIA

M. Joaquin Justiniano B. & T.S. Fredericksen. BOLFOR, Casilla 6204, Santa Cruz, Bolivia

The species in the genus Cariniana occurring in Bolivia were revised and a new species, Cariniana ianeirensis R. Knuth (locally known as yesquero blanco), was recorded. The previously undescribed morphological characteristics of the species were described, as well as relevant ecological data. Descriptions were carried out based on the structure used by Prance & Mori (1979) for the genus Cariniana. The later edition does not mention several features, especially related to fruits, geographical distribution undertaken to that date were centered around the forests of the east coast of Brazil, where the first collections occurred. In addition, the first list of species of the genus in Bolivia was prepared.
