Chromosome number and configurations at meiotic metaphase were determined for seven taxa of C. pisiformis-complex. Consecutive chromosome numbers were bserved: C. alterniflora var. arimensis (2n=56), C. cuneata (2n=58), C. duvaliana (2n=74-78), C. fernaldiana (2n=70-74), C. sikokiana (2n=68-71), C. stnostachys (2n=68-61), C. tashiroana (2n=66, 67). At meiotic metaphase, every trivalent was heteromorphic chain configurations. These results indicate the aneuploid series originated primarily from chromosome mutation and, subsequently, maintained aneuploidy within each population by self/or cross-fertilization. Forty populations in the complex were examined utilizing polyacrylamide gel electorophoresis and thirteen interpretable loci were scored for ten enzyme system. Although consecutive chromosome numbers area observed in C. pisiformis-complex, a cluster analysis indicates the similarities and relationships of the populations and taxa.
