FERTILIZATION IN TORENIA FOURNIERI: ACTIN DYNAMICS AND NUCLEAR BEHAVIORIN LIVING CENTRAL CELL AND PRIMARY ENDOSPERM.

M.Yuan, Y. Fu, B.Q. Huang, S.Y. Zee, University of Hong Kong

Actin undergoes dramatic changes in the central cell and primary endosperm during fertilization. After anthesis actin filaments are organized into a distinct network in cytoplasm. It becomes partly fragmented in the micropylar end after pollination. It completely depolymerizes into punctates during karyogamy. The migration of the secondary nucleus for gametic fusion is coupled with the presence of a Acage@ and thick bundles associated with the nucleus. After fertilization actin filaments are reorganized into a disctint network in the cortex of the primary endosperm. The migration in the central cell nucleus is inhibited by the disruption of actin filaments with cytochalasin B,indicating actin is a major cytoskeletal element for the nuclear migration in the central cell and primary endosperm. ,
