RESULTS OF THE INVENTORY OF THE VIETNAMESE FLORA

Out of about 12,000 native species of vascular plants estimated for the Vietnamese flora, 9,627 species (80%) belonging to 2,011 genera and 291 families are listed. Psilotophyta includes 1 family, 1 genus, and 1 species, Lycopodiophyta - 3 families, 5 genera, and 56 species, Equisetophyta - 1 family, 1 genus and 2 species, Polypodiophyta - 29 families, 127 genera and 626 species, Gymnospermae - 8 families, 18 genera and 45 species, and Angiospermae - 249 families, 1,859 genera and 8,897 species of which 195 families, 1,404 genera and 6,719 species belong to Dicotyledons and 54 families, 455 genera and 2,178 species to Monocotyledons. The ten largest families are: Orchidaceae (768 species), Leguminosae (557), Gramineae (467), Euphorbiaceae (416), Rubiaceae (395), Cyperaceae (304), Compositae (291), Lauraceae (245), Fagaceae (211), and Acanthaceae (177), together comprising 3,831 species (39.8% of the listed species). The following genera have 51 or more species: Lithocarpus, Dendrobium, Ficus, Ardisia, Bulbophyllum, Carex, Diospyros, Hedyotis, Fimbristylis, Castanopsis, Syzygium, and Cyperus. Additionally there are 733 species of introduced vascular plants known only in cultivation.
