XVI International Botanical Congess
The reticulate exine patterns of Schisandra and Illicium pollen look alike, but this similarity is false. Microspores of the both species have much in common during tetrad stage: initial glycocalyx, temporary auxiliary strands of fibrillar substance and spatial reticulum-like conformation of the plasmalemma. Next, the designs of exine development in the two species have diverged, resulting in different spacing of growing glycocalyx and auxiliary ephemeral structures. After lifting the invaginated portions of the plasmalemma, the final pseudo-alike exine architectonics has been established.
