SPATIAL DIVERSITY OF UNDERSTORY VEGETATION IN NATURAL SCOTS PINE COMMUNITIES

V.V. Gorshkov, I. Bakkal and N. Stavrova, Komarov Botanical Institute, Prof. Popov street, 1, St. Petersburg, Russia

Investigation was carried out in climax (150-210 years after fire) pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) forests in well-drained sites. To estimate the spatial diversity of the understory vegetation variation coefficients were calculated for different characteristics of vegetational cover (at series of sample plots 1 sq. m of size). The results showed that variation coefficients for all dominant species varied in different forest types from 0.2 to 1.0. Variation coefficients of the projected cover for the majority of species (cumulative share of which does not exceed 5%) varied from 1.5 to 4.5. Program ABiodiversity@ (N 111).
