A.Z. Gluchov, Dept. of Plant Resources, 340059, Donetsk, Ukraine

The Donetsk Botanical Gardens is situated in the Southeast of Ukraine, where up to 25% of the country=s industrial potential is concentrated. The main scientific direction of the Gardens is an industrial botany, solving problems of state, growth and development of plants and their communities in a direct contact with a human being=s industrial activity. A particular attention is paid to anthropogenous transformation of plant cover, plant tolerance to aerotechnogenous pollution, biological restoration of lands, disturbed by industry, scientific foundations of effective choice of tolerant plant, for sanitation of environment. The Gardens= collections, comprising more than 8 thousand species, forms and sorts of high plants are a basis for fundamental investigation and practical activity. Such a complex approach will enable to develop a strategy and tactics of wide use of tolerant plants in technogenous ecosystems, based on a broad biological diversity of the world genofund and possibility of their rational functioning within ecological, economic and social needs of society.
