The natural undergrowth of teak plantations has been assessed in south Benin (west Africa). Among the major undergrowth plant communities identified, the Psychotria vogeliana-community which our paper deals with, has its optimal development on plateau sandy leached soils with limited water reserve. The teak plantation of the Psychotria vogeliana-community is among the least productive ones at 5% of probability level. Therefore, this plant community can be used as a valid indicator for poor sandy and leached soils of plateaux. Moreover, based on the result of our research work, its advisesable that the undergrowth plant communities be taken into account as a new approach or tool for the management of the semi natural ecosystems.
