The genetic resources of the wild relatives of cultural plants is a valuable source for breeding and improving crop varieties. In 1995-1997 we investigated the flood grasslands of the Luga river to study the species variety of the wild relatives of cultural plants by geobotanical methods. In this region 35 species of the wild relatives of cultural plants were found, 23 species were from the family Poaceae and 12 species were from the family Fabacea. The frequency and the projective cover degree of the species were defined in the different ecological types of the habitats. Agrostis canina L., A. tenuis Sibth., Alopecurus pratensis L., Bromopsis inermis (Leyss.) Holub, Dactylis glomerata L, Elytrigia repens (L.) Nevski, Festuca arundinacea Shreb, F. ovina L., F. pratensis Huds., F. rubra L., Phalaroides arundinacea (L.) Rauschert, Phleum pratense L., P. trivialis L. were determinant species in the grasslands. Shalovo-Perechetsky reserve can be used for in situ conservation of these species.
