XVI International Botanical Congess
El Hazza (Haplophyllum tuberculatum, Forssk A. Juss.) Family Rutaceae, is used in folkloric medicine in Sudan in the treatment of intestinal worms, as spasmolytic and in childbirth. The histology of the different parts of this herbal plant was documented including the floral bracts, the sepals, stamens, ovary, and pollen grains. Essential oil cavities are numerous distributed between parenchymatous tissues of all the parts of the plant. Microchemical tests showed the presence of lignin, cellulose, fats, oils, tannins, starch and reducing compounds. Phytochemically, fatty acids, alkaloids, flavonones, emodols, tannins, anthracynosides, polyuronides and Saponiss are found. An alkaloid, a coumarin and a flavonoid were isolated using column chromatography, ultraviolet absorbancy and infrared spectroscopy.
